I’ll admit it — I am one of the millions who has become hooked on Dancing With the Stars. Of course, this show thrives on taking people with very little dancing experience and turning them into dancing machines.

When this book came into the library, I just had to check it out. I enjoyed reading the beginning of the book. It talks about the origin and history of the show, highlights some of the more popular dances from the series, and also explains some of the show’s production process.

The book then goes on to explain how to actually perform the dances with instruction compliments of Louis Van Amstel. This is the part I find humorous. I somehow find it difficult to believe that by reading Louis’ tips that I would become a great ballroom dancer. However, if you want to know what kinds of things the judges are looking for in a dance this would be a great resource.

As a little aside, if you do want to try a few steps for yourself there is also a Dancing With the Stars exercise video. Trust me, though. When you see the disclaimer stating that you should consult with your doctor before beginning any exercise program, take it seriously. The dances on the show last 90 seconds, and the dancers are winded at the end. The dances on the exercise video last 10 minutes! I gave it a valiant effort. But, for now, I think I will stick to being an “armchair judge.”
